Reading & Phonics
Reading is our highest academic priority at Ponteland Primary School and our aspiration is that children will become lifelong readers who are enthusiastic, engaged and who love to read.
From their first moment in school in Early Years, until they leave us at the end of Year 6, we introduce the children to a range of good quality fiction, non-fiction and poetry books through our core-text approach to curriculum, during their whole class guided reading sessions and through enjoyment of the high quality texts in our book spines and library. We follow the Little Wandle Letters and Sounds programme to teach phonics.
